Reader: Brothers, giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light. He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins. He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence. Priest: Peace be with you reader.

Reader: And with your spirit. Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia.

Verse: In Thee, O Lord, have I placed my hope; let me not be put to shame!

Today: Second collection for St. Herman’s Monastery. St. Herman’s is a monastic community of our Holy Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA. The mission of the community is to serve people and to preach the Gospel through good deeds in Christ’s love. The monastery primarily helps indigent men (although homeless women and children also partake of the meals) by feeding and clothing them, as well as providing emotional support and access to health and social services. The Home averages 84, 000 meals and 17,000 showers per year, 35 men can be housed per night, with an average stay of two weeks. ***************************************************************

Reminder: It is important for parish members to renew their Social Club Membership for 2008. Annual dues are $4.00. Please see Lesia or Jayne Maliwacki. Your financial support is needed and appreciated. Thank you.

***************************************************************“The Incarnation (Christ’s Nativity) the point of departure for theology, immediately puts at the heart of the latter the mystery of the Trinity. He Who is incarnated is indeed none other than the Word, that is to say, the Second Person of the Trinity. Incarnation and trinity are thus inseparable, and against a certain Protestant criticism, against a liberalism which would oppose Gospel and theology, we must stress the evangelical roots of the orthodox triadology. Can one indeed read the Gospel without asking the question: who is Jesus? And when we hear the confession of Apostle Peter: “Thou art the Son of the living God” (Matt. 16:16) when Saint John the Theologian opens to us eternity with his Gospel, we understand that the only possible answer is the dogma of the Trinity, the Christ only Son of the Father, God equal to the Father, identical divinity and different person.” /Vladimir Lossky/

Parents as Co-Creators: A parent must realize that he is not merely rearing his own off-spring or even a future citizen. He is edifying a son of God and a member of His Church. According to Saint Paul, he is therefore a co-creator co-builder. The child’s spiritual future depends on an intimate, lifelong co-operation and sharing between his parents and God. This education, like that of adults, is continuous. For our whole life is a divine education, designed to lead us by stages to God and His Kingdom.

The origin of childhood spirituality is therefore twofold: parental nurture, followed by instruction in the word of God. It is a synthesis of these two parallel and complementary contributions, as seen in conversion of Venerable Augustine; on the one hand the tears and fervent prayers of his mother Monica and on the other the instruction and sermons he received in Milan from St. Ambrose. Without this maternal participation-a kind of pre catechesis-and without this living faith in the home, any subsequent instruction is swept away before it can take root and bear fruit.

All the patristic teaching stress the privileged, prophetic and spiritual vocation of the parent as a co-worker with God in shaping and moulding future men and women. Parent’s words and deeds must not belie their counsels. Some parents are forever complaining and airing their grievances about life.

The Church’s task is to nourish and fortify the child so that he will not remain a child of the world, but that he will grow up into the likeness of his Creator and behave in a manner worthy of his dignity. The child’s value stems from his privileged position in this chaotic world, this fallen universe. It is therefore incumbent on the family and on the Church to see that the child does not deviate from his vocation, and that he fulfils the plan laid down in the divine economy.

This Thursday Orthodox Church will commemorate St. Andrew the First-Called Apostle: Andrew was a first a disciple of St. John the Baptist along with St. John the Theologian. When the Forerunner pointed out on Jesus as the Messiah, they both became His disciples. After Pentecost, Andrew taught in Byzantium (Constantinople), Thrace, Kyiv-Rus from which Christianity spread over all of Rus. In Amisos, he converted the Jews in the temple, baptized them, healed their sick, built a church, and left a priest for them. In Bithynia he taught, healed the sick, and drove away the wild beasts that bothered them. In Sinope, he prayed for the imprisoned Apostle Matthias, and his chains fell from him and the cell door opened. The people beat Andrew, breaking his teeth, cutting his fingers, and left him for dead in a dung heap. Jesus appeared to him and healed him, telling him to be of good cheer. When the people saw him the next day, they were amazed and believed. In Patras, Andrew healed the wife of the proconsul Aegeates of an incurable disease of the eyes. He healed a paralytic, lepers, and all manner of disease. Aegeates heard all of this and arrested Andrew. He tried to compel him through beatings to sacrifice to idols and so restore idolatry to his country. When Andrew refused, he was tied to a cross upside down so that he would live longer and suffer more. Twenty thousand of the faithful stood by and mourned. Even then, Andrew taught them and exhorted them to endure temporary sufferings for the kingdom of heaven. Suddenly, a heavenly light illumined Andrew for about half an hour. When it left, Andrew had given up his spirit. The prelate’s wife prepared Andrew’s body for burial, and a demon fell upon Aegeates and tormented him until hi died. Andrew’s relics are in Constantinople (Istanbul) along with those of the Apostle Luke and Timothy, the disciple of Paul, in the Church of the Apostles.

Pray for the sick: The Lord said: “Do unto others as you would want them do unto you.” So if we will be sick, we will ask help from God, we will ask priests and people to pray for us. In order for the Lord to listen to us when we are sick, we need to pray for those who are sick. O Lord our God, Who by Your Word alone healed all diseases; Who cured the Mother-in-law of Apostle Peter; Who chastises with pity and heals according to Your goodness; Who are able to put aside every malady and infirmity: Do You the same Lord, now relieve Your servants: Archbishop Vsevolod, Fr. Michael Michalopolos, Charles Ellsworth, John Tylko, Helen Rucky, Paul Chebiniak, Evelyn Kanazawich, Robert Kocak, Audrey and Eugene Klym, Michael Hovancik, Kevin Terpak, Emilia Lewkowicz, Mildred Charnetsky, Mary & Walter Gulachok, Mary Gormish, Olga Gooley, Mary Ford, John and Mary Mihalko, Margaret Klish, Marlyn Klish, Cypryan Klish II, Sophia Malowicky, Genevieve Sadowitz, Michael Sr. Duby, Anne and Karen Girnis, Julie Sadowitz, Catherine Dobransky, Pelahia Kit, Stephania Moroz, Mildred Bogdan, Wasyl Krawecki, Meghan Scannell, Olga Drost, Marion Kaspryk, Nicholas Corba, and cure them of the sicknesses which grieves them; lift them up from their beds of pain, sending down upon them Your mercy; and if it be Your will, give to them health and a complete recovery. For You are the Physician of our souls and bodies, and to You we ascribe glory: to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages.
